What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are stand-alone tooth replacements commonly made out of titanium. Providing complete root-to-crown restoration, they are the most versatile tooth loss solution, capable of supporting dental crowns, bridges, and dentures. They are placed into the jawbone for maximum stability and can remain in place for decades or even a lifetime. One of their unique benefits is their ability to mimic the natural root, providing stimulation to the bone to prevent resorption and keep facial features from sagging over time.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process
-
Initial Dental Implant Consultation – You will meet with a member of our team to go over the health of your smile, body, and jawbone. It’s important that you are in good overall health before undergoing any kind of minor oral surgery. If we find that you have gum disease, extensive tooth decay, or jawbone loss, we will suggest additional treatments before having your dental implants put into place.
-
Dental Implant Surgery – Once cleared for surgery, you will be referred to an outside implant dentist who will place each titanium post into the designated area of your jawbone. This will create a stable foundation for your new smile.
-
Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – When your procedure is complete, you will spend time at home recovering and allowing your implants to fuse with your jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. This can take 4-6 months to complete. Afterward, you will have your metal abutments placed on top of your implant posts, as these will help keep your restoration firmly attached.
-
Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – To complete your smile, your custom crown, bridge, or denture will be secured into place. This restoration will be crafted from an impression we will take of your smile early on in the process. Your new teeth will look and feel like regular ones and give you the confidence you need.
Benefits of Dental Implants
There are endless benefits that come with dental implants. With more than 500,000 being placed each year (and counting), it’s becoming the preferred tooth replacement solution among numerous individuals and dental professionals. Some of the advantages you’ll enjoy most include:
-
High Success Rate: Dental implants (upon initial placement) have a success rate of 95%. This number remains the same even after 10 years if properly cared for over time!
-
Maximum Durability: Their placement within your jawbone will produce a strong and stable foundation for your new smile. This allows you to worry less about any accidental slippage that might otherwise occur with more traditional tooth replacement options.
-
Jawbone Stimulation: Dental implants act like natural tooth roots, so they continually deliver stimulation to this area when you bite down or chew. This prevents resorption over time as well as keeping your facial features from drooping or sagging.
-
Healthy Teeth Stay in Place: You don’t need to worry about dental drift because your implants will keep your healthy teeth firmly in place instead of shifting out of alignment.
-
Cost-Effective: The price for implants is costlier upfront, but the long-term savings you can expect will become evident, as you will not need denture adhesive to hold them in place. You will also not need regular relining of your teeth or replacements.
-
Long Lifespan: One benefit that cannot be matched by any other solution is the fact that dental implants can remain in place for 30 years or more!
